ART IN
THE ORCHARD
INSPIRING CREATIVITY
A space for creative practices and artistic endeavour
Art is all around us. In every leaf, branch and sound.
The orchard attracts all kinds of creative practitioners with an interest in engaging with nature as their creative muse.
Poets, Dancers, Photographers and Ceramicists, to name but a few, all find a source of creative inspiration amongst the trees.
DANCE
The orchard has been a space for creating, rehearsing and performing dance works for many years. Hugh and his peers and collaborators from TrashDollys' Dance Theatre have recently created this short film to give an insight into their passion for moving in nature.
This space will continue to support dance artists and their creative practices. We are curious to see how this will root and develop over the coming years.

Art Exhibition and workshops at Dragon Orchard
Dragon Orchard opens up as one of the many venues for Herefordshire Art Week – a collection of artists, craftmakers and creative businesses that open their private studios and galleries for exhibitions, workshops and events.
Over the nine days, we invite you to visit us between 10am – 4pm to see the work of our exhibiting artists. Join them for tea, coffee and refreshments, and enjoy art activities for children and adults.
ARTISTS IN RESIDENCE
The orchard has an innate way of attracting all sorts of artists and creative practitioners. Dancers, Photographers and Ceramacists are just a few of the different artists that are currently 'in residence' here.
We are always open to welcome new creative folk with an interest in drawing their inspiration from the orchard.
HUGH STANIER
Hugh has spent most of his life in and around Dragon Orchard, which has nourished and supported his creative talents. Over the course of his journey, he has danced in many different ways.
For him, the orchard is where movement and wellbeing find their home together. This quality of moving for freedom of expression and vitality is most important in Hugh's creative practice.
HANNAH DAY
Hannah and her family moved to Putley over 15 years ago and soon became involved with us at Dragon Orchard. Norman and Ann, together with Hannah and her husband, Simon, an accomplished wine and cider maker, set up the cider company, Once Upon a Tree. In more recent times, she has studied at Hereford College of Arts, and now works from her studio in the orchard.
Hannah will be exhibiting her work at Dragon Orchard this September for Herefordshire Art Week 2022.
DAN GREEN
Dan is a photographer and film maker with a specific focus on community art projects. Over the last year, Dan has engaged with Dragon Orchard through the seasons and has produced many of the wonderful photos and video footage for this website.
ROWAN MCONEGAL
Rowan, who lives just over the hedge, is an artist, gardener, herbalist and teacher.
Her current interests encompass both Japanese woodblock printmaking and Hedgerow medicine. She runs fascinating courses throughout the year literally a stones throw from the orchard.
